Great minds think alike. My very good friend, Charley, came out from NYC for the weekend and I had a fuckin' blast with her. We ate burritos. Hot sauce. Drank sub-par drinks at a western bar. Drove around town mindlessly searching for a park while blasting The Kills. We found the park. Finally. We drove home quickly. Furiously. Changed outfits. She grabbed the 1953 Hawthorne cruiser. I grabbed the old skool 80s Red Line BiMMerX. We nearly ran over a deer on the bike path. We met up with the Cruiser Kids. Drank High Life by the swingset. I held onto that bottle with one hand and held onto a gigantic Pink Lemonade lollipop in the other. I have no idea how the bike maneuvered straight.
Anyway, I digress. As usual. The point of all this is - we think alike. We like the same things. We both FUCKING LOVE The Kills. And we both agree that Alison 'VV' is super dope and that she should consider hanging out with us. Charley wants her wardrobe. I just want to hear her voice over sippin' on some drinks.
Charley knows music. Gets it. She missed nearly half of our advertising classes in college 'cuz there was always a show that needed to be seen - sometimes the venue was as far away as Madagascar. I admit, I haven't kept up with all her glorious publications, but I promise to start right now. And you should, too! And while you're at it, leave a comment letting her know that you're a friend of mine and that you think she's a badass, too.
Charley on everything else ROCKIN'
check out this video. i think it's a perfect visual description of modern day loooove. and sex.
And for the record, I don't agree with Charley on Kanye West. Nope. :)
It's really rare for me to read a blog post on Myspace...but when I saw a post from my fave band of the moment The Kills, well...I just couldn't resist.
Here's a tiny little snippet from Alison on the road, written somewhere between Madison and Minneapolis:
.... off to benton harbor to see bill and jessica and fern and rose at the studio. could be, most definitely, my favorite place on earth and it's nothing i can ever explain properly to anyone. but you know how it is, a place where your brain kind of opens up like an old dam and you feel kinda magic and long and tall and strong and bizarre and your vocabulary changes and your mind bends over backwards and you become something better than you normally are... and you think, the world is good and people are good, much better than they normally are... and you feel young and new and not so twisted or worried or scattered on the lawn in front of a bunch of idiots who step on you walking out on the way to their cars... i just don't know if i can explain it, probably shouldn't try. but it was a good night and i laughed so hard i had tears in my eyes and stomach knives and i slept good that night too because i felt home and my dreams were rich like oil paintings, unlike the photocopied ones i get in the hotel chains.
The Kills will magically make their presence in a town near you, if you're lucky and don't happen to live in the land-locked area known as Colorado. Fuck. I usually applaud the efforts of Denver and Boulder in their conquest of receiving all things motha-fuckin' rockin' (in the rock show circuit, that is, nowhere else), but sadly, The Kills are not making a stop here. And that's a BIG SAD for me. The album is one of the things keeping me slightly sane at the moment.
If you happen to live in one of these cities and you're not agoraphobic, do yourself a favor and grab a whiskey or two with a good friend and get lost in Alison's voice...

Check out my personal theme song of the moment and tell me you don't like it. Tell me. I dare you.
..but check this out....I will actually have the opportunity to check out Denver local music phenomenon The Photo Atlas at the agency today.
Finally...there is hope on the horizon.
This face will be rocked.
This mouth will be covered with the sweet essence of Miller Lite.
These eyes will be focused on the gyrating skinny little bodies of little scenester rocker boys.
This girl will have a smile on her face.
This is soooo created for people like Brian Wood, of Third Class Design. Yup.
