It was a beautiful day, the sun beat down
I had the radio on, I was driving
Trees flew by, me and Del were singing
Little Runaway I was flying
That never would come to me
Working on a mystery
Going wherever it leads
Running down a dream
I felt so good like anything was possible
I hit cruise control and rubbed my eyes
The last three days the rain was unstoppable
It was always cold, no sunshine
Yeah running down a dream
That never would come to me
Running down a dream
Great minds think alike. My very good friend, Charley, came out from NYC for the weekend and I had a fuckin' blast with her. We ate burritos. Hot sauce. Drank sub-par drinks at a western bar. Drove around town mindlessly searching for a park while blasting The Kills. We found the park. Finally. We drove home quickly. Furiously. Changed outfits. She grabbed the 1953 Hawthorne cruiser. I grabbed the old skool 80s Red Line BiMMerX. We nearly ran over a deer on the bike path. We met up with the Cruiser Kids. Drank High Life by the swingset. I held onto that bottle with one hand and held onto a gigantic Pink Lemonade lollipop in the other. I have no idea how the bike maneuvered straight.
Anyway, I digress. As usual. The point of all this is - we think alike. We like the same things. We both FUCKING LOVE The Kills. And we both agree that Alison 'VV' is super dope and that she should consider hanging out with us. Charley wants her wardrobe. I just want to hear her voice over sippin' on some drinks.
Charley knows music. Gets it. She missed nearly half of our advertising classes in college 'cuz there was always a show that needed to be seen - sometimes the venue was as far away as Madagascar. I admit, I haven't kept up with all her glorious publications, but I promise to start right now. And you should, too! And while you're at it, leave a comment letting her know that you're a friend of mine and that you think she's a badass, too.
Charley on everything else ROCKIN'
check out this video. i think it's a perfect visual description of modern day loooove. and sex.
And for the record, I don't agree with Charley on Kanye West. Nope. :)
It's really rare for me to read a blog post on Myspace...but when I saw a post from my fave band of the moment The Kills, well...I just couldn't resist.
Here's a tiny little snippet from Alison on the road, written somewhere between Madison and Minneapolis:
.... off to benton harbor to see bill and jessica and fern and rose at the studio. could be, most definitely, my favorite place on earth and it's nothing i can ever explain properly to anyone. but you know how it is, a place where your brain kind of opens up like an old dam and you feel kinda magic and long and tall and strong and bizarre and your vocabulary changes and your mind bends over backwards and you become something better than you normally are... and you think, the world is good and people are good, much better than they normally are... and you feel young and new and not so twisted or worried or scattered on the lawn in front of a bunch of idiots who step on you walking out on the way to their cars... i just don't know if i can explain it, probably shouldn't try. but it was a good night and i laughed so hard i had tears in my eyes and stomach knives and i slept good that night too because i felt home and my dreams were rich like oil paintings, unlike the photocopied ones i get in the hotel chains.
The Kills will magically make their presence in a town near you, if you're lucky and don't happen to live in the land-locked area known as Colorado. Fuck. I usually applaud the efforts of Denver and Boulder in their conquest of receiving all things motha-fuckin' rockin' (in the rock show circuit, that is, nowhere else), but sadly, The Kills are not making a stop here. And that's a BIG SAD for me. The album is one of the things keeping me slightly sane at the moment.
If you happen to live in one of these cities and you're not agoraphobic, do yourself a favor and grab a whiskey or two with a good friend and get lost in Alison's voice...

Check out my personal theme song of the moment and tell me you don't like it. Tell me. I dare you.
I AM UNIKFREK OF ROCKITDONTSTOPIT© AND I ENDORSE THIS MESSAGE:
This is Deep Purple, a band I really have never remembered listening to in my lifetime, but some of you may have. Anyway, I found this video to be pretty rocktastic because it was made way before Adobe After Effects was even created!
>>After Effects was originally created by the Company of Science and Art in Providence, RI, USA. Version 1.0 was released in January 1993. Version 2.1 introduced PowerPC acceleration in 1994. CoSA along with After Effects was then acquired by Aldus corporation in July 1993; this company was then acquired by Adobe in 1994, and with it PageMaker and After Effects. Adobe's first new release of After Effects was version 3.0. <<
So, someone tell me how they did all these effects? Maybe I should know this, but you know, I haven't made time to read the history of motion graphics...is there even a book on this? I bet I have one in my library...
I know a bunch of people are gonna give me mad shit for posting this and asking such dumb questions.
Whateva to yo howeva.
Ankle Injuries features dice as the main executional element, the same way legos were used in the White Stripes video "Fell in Love with a Girl". May I mention, it is made use of niiiicely. Just check it out and see for yourself.
HERE'S SOME WIKI ACTION FOR YA:
Fujiya & Miyagi are an English band formed in Brighton in 2000. They are currently signed to Tirk Records in the United Kingdom. They are self-described (erroneously) as being heavily influenced by 70's Krautrock bands such as Can and Neu! as well as early-90's electronica artists like Aphex Twin. The origins of the band's name come from a character in the movie The Karate Kid as well as the brand of a record player [1].
The first several years after the band's formation were spent in relative obscurity; however, they began to see a drastic spike in popularity between 2003 and 2006 thanks in large part to very favorable reviews from prominent music publications such as NME and Pitchfork Media. They were also the subject of an episode of the MTV2 documentary series This Is Our Music in 2006. The song "Collarbone" is featured in Jaguar's 2007 "Gorgeous" advert campaign.
The story of how they met and formed the band variously reports a mutual hero-worship of world heavyweight wrestler Kendo Nagasaki, and a shared interest in krautrock and early-nineties electronica discovered while warming the subs bench during Sunday league football.
I HAVE NO IDEA WHERE I'VE BEEN ALL THIS TIME...BUT SOMEHOW I HAVE MANAGED TO COMPLETELY MISS OUT ON A WHITE STRIPES VIDEO FROM 2003.
NOT JUST A WHITE STRIPES VIDEO, BUT FOR AN AMAZING WHITE STRIPES SONG, "I JUST DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH MYSELF."
NOT JUST A FANTASTIC SONG, BUT A FANTASTIC VIDEO WITH A FANTASTIC SUPERMODEL.
NOT JUST AN ORDINARY SUPERMODEL - BUT KATE - KATE "THE GREAT" MOSS.
AND NOT JUST ANOTHER MUSIC VIDEO WITH ANOTHER SUPERMODEL - BUT A SUPER DUPER SUPERMODEL WITH A STRIPPER POLE.
AND GET THIS! NOT JUST ANOTHER MUSIC VIDEO WITH A SUPERMODEL WITH A STRIPPER POLE, BUT A VIDEO DIRECTED BY NONE OTHER THAN THE HIGHLY ACCLAIMED SOFIA COPPOLA.
can you tell I'm excited??
WIKI WIKI ACTION:
I Just Don't Know What to Do with Myself" is a song by Burt Bacharach and Hal David.
The song was first recorded by R&B singer Tommy Hunt as the title track for his 1962 album, and issued as a single (Scepter 1236, b/w "And I Never Knew.") It was produced by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, and arranged and conducted by Burt Bacharach. Two years later it was a hit for Dusty Springfield, whom the song is still most associated with. In 1966, Dionne Warwick had a hit with her version in the United States. Burt Bacharach, of course, recorded a version, which can be found on The Look of Love: The Collection (UK 2001).
The song has since been covered by many artists of varied backgrounds including Isaac Hayes, 1970; Elvis Costello & The Attractions, 1978; Demis Roussos, 1978; The Photos, featuring Wendy Wu, 1980; Linda Ronstadt, 1994; and Steve Tyrell, 2003.
A 2002 release of Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, Going To A Go-Go - Away We A Go-Go, included their version of the song (recording year unknown).
Also in 2002, the soundtrack to My Best Friend's Wedding included a version by Nicky Holland. In the film, Cameron Diaz sings the song in a karaoke scene.
In 2003, it was released as a single by The White Stripes. It was the second single from their album Elephant. The video for the White Stripes version is a black-and-white video featuring Kate Moss pole dancing erotically and was directed by Sofia Coppola.

This is one of my favorite videos of all time. For real. I remember listening to this song in my bimmer, driving back from the library where I would never study but spent massive amounts of time scoping out the cute Jesuit school boys [ especially the 1/2 Chinese 1/2 German boy].
When you're up late on Xmas eve and everyone else is asleep and you find yourself watching Canada's old version of Fuse [Much Music], you can expect to find some wacky holiday music videos.
