Democrat: Bush war on Iran 'likely'

In a recent interview with NPR, Webb (D-VA) said many Bush administration officials are pushing for a US military strike against Iran.
"Well, it (a military strike against Iran) certainly seems that it's on the table... There are people in the administration who would like to see that happen," said the Virginia Democrat.
In March 2007, Webb introduced a legislation which required the US president to seek congressional authorization before taking military action against Iran.
"This presidency has shot from the hip too many times for us to be able to trust it to act on its own. It's not the way the Constitution was designed. We need Congress to be involved in any decision to commence military activities absent an attack from the other side or a direct threat," Webb had claimed.
The bill was considered another futile Democratic Party effort after it failed to win congressional approval.

National team bans Ali Karimi

Top football star, Ali Karimi
|
The former Bayern Munich midfielder said that he left the training camp in Ardebil in north-western Iran for Tehran after Iran's Football Federation imposed a disciplinary punishment against him.
According to a member of Iran's Football Federation, Karimi has been deprived of playing in the national team due to his criticism of the FFI, particularly after the appointment of a new coach.
The top football player said that the current FFI formation was the weakest in his ten-year presence in the national team and would bring Iran's football backwards rather than forward.
He said that he would not take back his remarks, hoping his punishment would help solve the problems of Iran's football.

I TOTALLY STOLE THIS POST FROM MEDIA CHICK, BUT I POLITELY ASKED BEFORE DOING SO. SHE CLEARLY IS NOT AS LAZY AS I HAVE BEEN LATELY...
And now you don't even have to read the captions! You can watch them on screen! Amaaaazing!
I heard somewhere long ago that Marjane Satrapi is no longer allowed to the Islamic Republic of Iran (the Iranian government doesn't really dig on the whole talking trash thing).
I haven't been a movie watcher this year, as I have been far too busy being endlessly devoted to my television. I've been waiting for the realm of American film to get their shit together and stop feeding me copious amounts of garbage.
I think the time has finally come....
Today I ate more food than my stretchy pants could handle. I also learned that wearing a Puma zip-up track suit underneath my Islamic approved garb was a bad idea while eating at a restaurant.
Today I also had some good discussions with my family re: Persian typography and design. Good business ideas and creative endeavours to pursue in the very near future [if only my inspiration can turn into perspiration].
Tomorrow I visit with more family at ISCO [ which stands for something clever ] and hopefully get some writing samples from someone in my family with a knack for Persian penmanship.
Up on deck:
Plans to see an Iranian film at a theatre
Find Iranian design / typography books to buy
Drink a Pomegranate Slushy at a tiny corner window shop called Africa
Visit more family
Eat incredibly delicious food that will make me feel bloated all day
Dance [ while hopefully not bloated ]
Spend some time with my dad and grandmother
Drink Turkish coffee and hear my fortune from my grandmother or aunt [ and in the process learn a thing or two about telling fortunes ]
Take tons of photos and little video snippets
Show off my MacBook Pro to my family [ they really dig iCal and iPhoto so far, After Effects was not appealing as I wiped off all projects prior to coming here for some dumb reason ]
Scoping out the many 2007 BMW models hitting the streets of Tehran [ people pay DOUBLE the price for BMWs here in CASH. This means a $90,000 7 Series retails here for $180,000. And there is no such thing as leasing here. Or credit for that matter. Pay in full. Cash ]
Drink tea...
Watch satellite television while thinking of working for Dubai 1 network in, well, Dubai
SOME FOTOS FROM TEHRAN BAZAAR taken yesterday:
HERE'S SOME PICS OF ME AT A TEAHOUSE IN TEHRAN. I'M WITH MY AUNTS AND MY GRANDMOTHER. THE OLD GUY WITH THE PRAYER BEADS IS SOME RELIGIOUS DUDE THAT TRIED HOOKING ME UP WITH SOME RELIGIOUS DUDE THAT WAS QUITE YOUNGER THAN HE.
HMM. NOT SO MUCH.
BTW, EVERYONE HERE THINKS I'M A FRICKIN' ARAB THANKS TO THE PATTERN ON MY HEADSCARF. NO ONE UNDERSTAND I ROCK THE HOUNDSTOOTH CUZ IT'S FUCKING RAD AND BLACK AND WHITE.
WHATEVER.
PEOPLE LOOK AT ME ALL SORTS OF STRANGE WHEN I WALK DOWN THE STREET. PEOPLE SAY THINGS. LOTS OF THINGS. AND I LAUGH IN THEIR FACE AS I APPROACH THEM CUZ I SEEM TO SPEAK THIS FARSI LANGUAGE QUITE FLUENTLY.
HATE THE FACT THAT PEOPLE HERE GOTTA HATE ANYTHING THAT'S SLIGHTLY OUT OF THE NORM....
...NOW U KNOW WHY I'M SUCH A HATER. APPARENTLY, IT'S IN MY BLOOD.
I'M REALLY NOT ALL THAT ANGRY RIGHT NOW, JUST BEEN A CRAZY WEEK.

...and what do I find? Some old pix from SXSW 2005.
I really dig on taking pics of random postings around the cities I travel to...this one struck me because of two things:
- The gigantic yellow Selfish Cunt poster
- The small Remember Iran-Contra sticker up top.
I only hope that our government doesn't get too involved in this Iran nuclear situation. I fear for our country...I fear for my family.
