It was a beautiful day, the sun beat down
I had the radio on, I was driving
Trees flew by, me and Del were singing
Little Runaway I was flying
That never would come to me
Working on a mystery
Going wherever it leads
Running down a dream
I felt so good like anything was possible
I hit cruise control and rubbed my eyes
The last three days the rain was unstoppable
It was always cold, no sunshine
Yeah running down a dream
That never would come to me
Running down a dream
In celebration of Valentine's Day [official Valentine's Day, that is, the day after Marilyn Manson mayhem] I had the pleasure of kicking back with my TroubleMint Twin while watching some quality cinema.
Tonight was all about crazy women. We started off with Notes on a Scandal [st. Cate Blanchett and Judi Dench]. We then moved on to Volver by acclaimed director Pedro Almodovar [st. Penelope Cruz]. I've wanted to see Volver for a long time. And it was worth the wait. The film was excellent and I def recommend it to be watched by mothers & daughters. I plan to do the same with my mom. :)
I've been curious about the opening titles for Volver since seeing the promo. I soon realized that what I was eagerly waiting to see actually takes place in the end credits. I love the vivid organic imagery and the simple, elegant animation.
Here is an excerpt from an article on the end credits of Volver, Art Directed by Juan Gotti:
When Juan Gatti saw the first cut of Pedro Almodóvar's new film "Volver," he was struck by how vividly the personalities of the leading characters, the women in a working-class Spanish family, were reflected in the colored patterns of their clothes.
He could be forgiven for focusing on something so esoteric, because Gatti designs the title sequences of Almodóvar's movies. For Volver's titles, or end credits, he created an animation of the flowers, leaves and spots on the women's aprons and dresses. "Pedro is very clever at building his characters with details like that," Gatti says. "And I love the idea of taking everyday images, and giving them a graphic sophistication."
I TOTALLY STOLE THIS POST FROM MEDIA CHICK, BUT I POLITELY ASKED BEFORE DOING SO. SHE CLEARLY IS NOT AS LAZY AS I HAVE BEEN LATELY...
And now you don't even have to read the captions! You can watch them on screen! Amaaaazing!
I heard somewhere long ago that Marjane Satrapi is no longer allowed to the Islamic Republic of Iran (the Iranian government doesn't really dig on the whole talking trash thing).
I haven't been a movie watcher this year, as I have been far too busy being endlessly devoted to my television. I've been waiting for the realm of American film to get their shit together and stop feeding me copious amounts of garbage.
I think the time has finally come....
